alert for more than 90,000 taxpayers who haven't received tax refund checks. These unclaimed refunds total more than $64 million. There are many reasons why these refund checks don't always reach taxpayers. The IRS reports
incorrect addresses as the big culprit. A death or marriage may also result in a returned check. There is no statute of limitations for claiming these refunds, so if you think the IRS owes you money, call the toll-free assistance
line at (800) 829-1040 (good luck getting through quickly). Three Reasons to E-file Your Taxes
ACCURACY Electronically filed tax returns are more likely to be accepted as filed than paper ones due to various computer checks conducted prior to the return's transmission. FASTER REFUND Refunds on electronically filed returns are generally disbursed within two to three weeks. FILE NOW - PAY LATER A "balance due" return -- where the taxpayer owes money -- may also be electronically filed.
